시놉시스

세상과 동떨어진 듯 보이는 안개가 자욱한 숲, 낚시 가방을 맨 한 남자가 노래를 흥얼거리며 걸어 들어온다. 남자가 도착한 곳은 어느 강가. 남자는 낚싯대를 펼쳐놓고 한가롭게 낚시를 시작한다. 시간이 흘러 어느 새 한밤중이 된 강가. 생각만큼 낚시는 잘 되지 않고, 지루해진 남자. 그 때 낚싯대에 커다란 무언가가 걸려드는데, 그 무언가는 매운탕거리가 아닌, 소복 차림의 묘령의 젊은 여인이었다. 놀라는 남자, 여자와 낚싯줄이 엉켜 서로 묶인 꼴이 되고, 남자는 사색이 되어 풀어보려고 안간 힘을 써 보지만 그럴수록 더욱 더 엉켜 들고 마는데…엉켜든 낚싯줄을 풀려고 발버둥 치던 와중, 죽은 줄로만 알았던 그녀의 팔이 갑자기 남자의 목덜미를 휘감는다. 비명을 지르며 쓰러지는 남자, 까무러친다. 얼마나 시간이 흘렀을까… 남자는 여자가 입고 있던 소복을 입은 채 잠들어 있고, 남자의 옷을 입은 여자가 남자를 깨운다. 정신이 든 남자, 영문을 몰라 혼란스러워하는데 엎친데 덮친 격으로 여자가 느닷없이 어린아이의 목소리로 울며 아빠라고 부르는데….
Deep in the woods, cutting through the fog, a man walks in carrying a fishing bag. He arrives at the edge of a river. The man leisurely goes about setting up his fishing rods and starts fishing. Hours later, night has fallen on the quiet riverside. The man hasn‟t caught much fish and just sits, waiting. Just then, something big is caught on the fishing rod. It‟s not something he can put on his dinner plate, but the body of a mysterious young woman in white funeral dress! Shocked, the man trips up on his fishing rods, and gets tangled together with the woman by the fishing lines. He struggles to untangle himself free, but the more he tries, the more he gets tangled. Suddenly, the woman‟s arm wraps around the man‟s neck. The man screams and faints. Later, the woman, now wearing the man‟s clothes, wakes up the man, who is now wearing her white funeral dress. The man is completely confused. To make matters worse, the woman starts to cry in a little girl‟s voice, calling him “daddy”…

연출의도

평소 토착 종교에 관심이 많은 박찬경 감독은 박찬욱 감독과 함께 원초적이고 날 것 같은 느낌의 무속신앙을 극영화로 풀어내면 어떨까하는 생각으로 파란만장을 기획하였고, 다른 종교에 비해 인간의 감정을 보여주는데 있어 더 솔직하고 근원적이라는 점에 흥미를 느껴 연출하게 되었다.
Director Park Chan-kyong, who has a great interest in indigenous religions, and his brother director Park Chan-wook found it interesting to make a fiction out of the primitive and raw shaman faith. They decided to depict Korean traditional religions for its unique straightforward and underlying way of showing human emotions.
