시놉시스

The milkman Il-dong and the paperboy Bae-dal are both earnest people who wake up every dawn to work. One day, they quarrel over differing interests as their delivery schedules coincide with each other. From then on, Il-dong intentionally wakes up earlier to keep the elevator at the 14th floor and prevent Bae-dal from using it; Bae-dal used to keep the elevator for himself. Distressed by Il-dong’s doings, Bae-dal calls him out to an empty lot for a fight. During their struggle, Il-dong finds Bae-dal’s marine T-shirt. At last, peace arrives.

연출의도

We often lose our temper over trivial matters when confronting others with different interests. But then we also make up with them for the most absurd reasons, and even befriend them when regionalism or the old school ties are applicable. Whatever the reason may be, everyone seems to lead his or her lives in this cycle. In this film, I tried to depict the everyday of these two characters, and the companionship they may find as delivery men both working in the break of dawn.

첫눈이 내릴 듯한 11월의 새벽. 우유배달원(정성화)은 심야라디오를 들으며 상쾌한 마음으로 하루 일을 시작한다. 상쾌했던 마음도 잠시, 매 층 정차하는 아파트 엘리베이터로 인해 무거운 우유통을 들고 고층아파트 계단을 뛰어다녀야 하는 일이 반복되자 점점 그의 기분은 난폭해져 간다. 그러던 중 번번이 한 신문배달원(김인권)이 엘리베이터를 전세 낸 듯 사용하고 있던 것을 알게 된다. 건전하고 명랑한 노동영화로 시작된 전개는 차차 보일 듯 보이지 않는 배달원 추격전으로 변모해가다 결국 두 배달원 간의 본격적 격투장면에서 클라이막스에 이른다.
<첫 눈 내리는 날>은 기실 익숙한 코미디 영화다. 그동안 제작자로 활동해온 길영민 JK필름 대표의 첫 연출작이기도 하다. 명품 조연배우를 통한 웃음코드 활용과 휴머니즘적 봉합으로 마무리되는 전개는 JK필름 특유의 코미디 영화를 자연스럽게 연상시킨다. 새벽 노동자들의 소소한 불화를 통해 인간에 대한 이해나 세계에 대한 이해로 나아가는 게 아니라, 코믹한 한 순간의 설정으로 갈등과 구조적 불화를 녹여버린다는 점에서 그러하다. 정성화와 김인권이 겨루는 한 판 격투는 상업코미디 영화의 양념 같은 한 장면을 보는 듯 기시감이 든다. 그럼에도 단역으로 등장하는 취객은 신스틸러로서 제 몫을 다하며 눈길을 끈다. 그는 취중 진언을 통해 새벽의 난투극에 대한 뼈 있는 한 마디를 남긴다. 이 순간이 영화에서 가장 에너지가 응축되는 장면이라는 점이 난센스다.
