시놉시스

부채를 안은 채 대학을 졸업한 주인공은 직장도 안 잡히고 사회 초년생의 엄청난 무게 앞에서 좌절한다. 자신이 필연적으로 귀속해야만 되는 미국사회에서 찾을 돌파구는 자신을 되돌아 보며 자학하는 것이다.
Just graduated from university with a debt, he cannot find a job, and feels frustrated by the enormous weight of being a mere beginner in society. The only exit he finds in American society, to which he inevitably has to belong, is to look back and torture himself.

연출의도

현실은 ‘상징’을 만들지 못하고 ‘상징’이 현실을 지배하는 시대에 작가 본인이 피부로 느끼고 있는 정신적 세계 즉 우리 모두가 수면에 취해 행진하고 있는 모습을 표현하고자 영화 <모범시민>을 제작하게 되었다.
This is the era that reality cannot make ‘symbol’ and that ‘symbol’ dominates reality. Through this film, I wanted to express the mental world that I feel myself, in other words, that we are in fact all somnambulists marching in sleep.
