시놉시스

성전환자인 아리스튜가 죽자, 친구들은 그를 위해 정성을 다해 아름답게 치장한다. 장례식을 위해 그녀의 주검이 어머니의 집으로 옮겨지지만 가족들은 아들로써 장례식이 치러 지기를 원한다. 결국 어머니는 여자로 돌아온 아들의 화장을 지우고 양복을 입힌다.
The body of a dead transvestite is prepared for the wake by other transvestites. The family, after receiving the body, decides to bury as a man. A procession of transvestites heads to the wake to say good-bye. The shoes are put on. Death is nothing but a window.

연출의도

나는 어딘지 모르게 정직 해 보이는 45세의 택시 운전사와의 대화에서 이 영화의 영감을 얻었다. 택시 운전사는 길에서 잠든 노숙자를 본 이래로 인간의 삶의 잔혹함을 느끼게 되었다고 이야기했다. 하지만 내가 매춘부와 창녀들도 똑같은 세상의 냉대와 잔혹함을 겪는다고 대꾸하자 그는 ‘매춘부는 괜찮지만 동성애자는 전혀 괜찮지 않소. 나는 그들이 총에 맞아 죽길 바라오’라고 덧붙였다. 나는 그가 왜 그렇게 생각하는지 그리고 성전환자와 다른 소외된 계급이 사람들의 공감과 동정을 받지 못하는 이유를 묻고 싶었다. 그리고 그들이 존재가 괴물처럼 느껴지는 지도 묻고 싶었다.
My motivation for making this film arose from a conversation with a 45 year old Cab Driver with dyed hair – a kind and honest man. Upon seeing a homeless man asleep on the street, this Cab Driver commented on man’s cruelty to man. But when I offered a rejoinder that whores and prostitutes suffer similar indignities, he responded with ‘The whores are ok, but not those fags. I hope they die with a bullet through their assholes.’ Why then I’d like to ask do transvestites and other marginalized groups elicit unsympathetic feelings from otherwise sympathetic people, and do their bodies become invested with monstrous qualities?
